R&D Product Design

What is R&D product design? What is the purpose of this for companies wanting to release new products? Let us know more about this below. So, read on.

R&D Product Design

R&D product design refers to designing products that are developed and improved through research and development (R&D). The main aim of R&D product design is to create a competitive edge, as well as to increase the sales volume of the company. According to research, companies with a strong R&D department and experience in product design have a greater chance of success in the business world.

Companies that have made their mark on the business and consumer world through innovative product design include Apple, Sony, and Samsung. Nowadays, companies are developing products that are not unique in their features but also stylish.

What is the Purpose of R&D Product Design?

The main purpose of R&D product design is to create new models and update versions of existing models that are more competitive than their predecessors. For example, a smartphone manufacturer may come up with devices that feature new technology, or they may release an upgraded version of an existing model with newer technology. These products will be sold at higher prices than their predecessors.

Then, the main aim of R&D product design is to make consumers buy a new model because it is better than its predecessor. However, some companies may produce products that have similar features to their previous models, yet they will sell them at a lower price for the sake of promoting sales volume.

This strategy can work for some types of products, but it does not work for all types. For example, you can’t lower the price of an iPhone or iPad, because if you do so then people might associate the product with being cheap. So you should be careful when deciding your pricing.

How is R&D Product Design Done?

The First Method: Direct Invention

In this method, the company will come up with ideas for new products by themselves (without any help from outside sources). And they will take these ideas directly to production by hiring designers to develop them into models or prototypes.

Then, this method involves less risk because there is no need for the company to pay any fees or licenses for using other people’s ideas or patents. However, this method also means that companies have less creative control over their designs and features compared to other methods.

The Second Method: Buying Existing Design

The second method involves a company buying the rights to an existing design and then modifying it to suit their needs. For example, if a company wants to make a new smartphone, they will have to buy the rights or license to make the design from a company that already has it. Then, they will add their features and ideas to it.

This method is more costly than the first one. This is because there is a fee or license for using the design. However, it does give companies full control over their product designs and features, which can help increase sales. Because consumers will be more likely to trust their products.
